A knife attack at Hamburg's main train station left at least 12 people injured, with some in critical condition, according to local emergency services. The assault occurred on May 23, 2025, and occurred on the platform between tracks 13 and 14.
The suspect behind the attack, a 39-year-old woman, was arrested shortly after the incident. The investigation is ongoing, with police currently examining her background to determine any potential motive.
The attack disrupted railway services at the station, which is a major hub for local, regional, and long-distance trains. It caused some delays and diversions.
In response to the incident, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz voiced his alarm, calling it "shocking" on social media. Multiple ambulances were seen on the scene, and police were seen cordoning off portions of the station.
The assault raises questions about public safety at congested train hubs in Germany, as it follows a series of similar violent episodes in recent months.
