31,000 Kaiser Permanente Nurses and Health Professionals to Strike on October 14

Tens of thousands of Kaiser Permanente nurses and health professionals in Northern California are set to strike on October 14, potentially disrupting services at over two dozen hospitals and clinics across California and Hawaii. The five-day strike, led by the United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, will involve 31,000 workers.

The strike is expected to impact major Bay Area facilities, including those in Oakland, San Francisco, Walnut Creek, and San Jose. The union, representing the striking workers, has cited staffing shortages and patient safety concerns as key issues driving the action. Negotiations between the union and Kaiser Permanente have been ongoing but have yet to resolve the disputes.

The strike, scheduled to begin on October 14, is set to last for five days. Kaiser Permanente has stated that it will continue to provide care during the strike, although some services may be impacted. The union has encouraged patients to postpone non-urgent care during this period.
