Actor Orlando Bloom shed 30 pounds for his latest film, candidly disclosing the detrimental impact it had on him, warning others not to replicate the harsh diet regimen.

In an interview with People magazine, Orlando Bloom opened up about the challenges he faced during his 30-pound weight loss for his upcoming movie, The Cut. The British actor, who stars alongside Outlander lead Caitríona Balfe in the film, emphasized that the process was "definitely not something to try at home" without professional guidance.

To achieve the extremely lean look of a professional boxer, Bloom followed a very restrictive diet consisting mainly of tuna and cucumber. He also had to carefully cut both calories and water intake to reach his target weight. However, the physical toll was just one part of the story.

The mental challenges were equally daunting. The drastic weight loss and severe calorie restriction led to paranoia, anxiety, obsessive food thoughts, and severe insomnia. Bloom described struggling with the mental toll of intense discipline, mainly caused by hunger-induced lack of sleep. He found it disturbing how his mind was consumed by the inability to sleep when hungry and obsessive thinking about food after water restriction was added to the regimen to reach his final fighting weight.

Despite being supervised weekly by expert nutritionist Phillip Goglia and having his blood work monitored, Bloom warned that the extreme transformation was brutal. The film was shot in reverse chronological order, so Bloom was at his lightest and most physically strained on the first day of shooting and gained weight progressively as filming continued.

It's worth noting that Channing Tatum, known for his buff physique, has also undergone extreme weight loss for movie roles. However, he did not discuss his mental state during the process. Similarly, Matt Damon mentioned that some of his dietary changes for film roles were "unhealthy," but he did not elaborate on the mental toll they may have taken.

On the other hand, Christian Bale, an Oscar-winning actor, has a history of losing and gaining weight for film roles. However, he recently announced that he is no longer doing much weight loss for film roles due to the physical and mental strain they pose.

Orlando Bloom's experience highlights the often overlooked mental toll of weight loss for actors. He noted that losing 30 lbs was harder than he anticipated and took a "toll" on him. After his dedication to the weight loss process, Tatum was able to recover a sense of normalcy.

In The Cut, Bloom portrays an ex-boxer training for a comeback. The film promises to be a compelling drama, with Bloom's intense physical and mental transformation adding depth to his character. However, Bloom's warning serves as a reminder that such transformations should not be attempted without professional guidance and careful consideration of the potential mental and physical challenges involved.
