AUSA Honours Father Emil Kapaun in New Graphic Novel

The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) has released a new graphic novel, the latest in its annual series, honouring Father Emil Kapaun. This eight-page comic, launched on Sept. 23, 2022, tells the inspiring tale of the first military chaplain to feature in the collection.

Father Kapaun, a Catholic priest, served as a military chaplain during World War II and the Korean War. He held the rank of captain and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2013. His cause for canonization was opened in 1993 and he was declared 'Venerable' in February 2022. The new graphic novel aims to inspire readers to learn more about his life and story.

Drawn and written by comic book professionals, the novel presents Father Kapaun's story accurately and engagingly. It details his heroic actions in a prisoner-of-war camp during the Korean War, where he gave his life to help fellow POWs. Since 2018, AUSA has released four graphic novels each year, featuring Army Medal of Honor recipients. This year's release is a testament to the organisation's commitment to honouring and educating about the brave men and women who have served our country.

The Association of the United States Army (AUSA) continues to support the U.S. Army through educational initiatives, with its graphic novel series serving as a powerful tool for remembrance and inspiration. The latest instalment, honouring Father Emil Kapaun, is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by military chaplains and the importance of their role in supporting service members.
