Travis Caleb Decker, a former Army soldier, is on the run in Washington State, wanted for the murders of his three young daughters. Paityn (9), Evelyn (8), and Olivia (5) Decker were found dead at a remote campsite near Leavenworth, sparking a nationwide manhunt that has disrupted outdoor activities, particularly along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT).

The girls’ mother reported them missing when Decker failed to return them as scheduled from a court-ordered visit. The search for the suspect has rapidly expanded, involving over 100 officers from multiple agencies and covering rugged terrain in the Cascade Mountains of central Washington.

The Chelan County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Decker, an infantryman in the Army from 2013 to 2021, has extensive survival training and experience, increasing concerns about his ability to evade capture. Online records show that he recently searched for ways to move to Canada, adding fuel to suspicious activity reports.

The gruesome discovery of the girls' bodies near the campsite revealed evidence of zip ties and plastic bags, indicating they were likely bound and suffocated. The Chelan County Coroner's Office is still awaiting pathology results to determine the exact cause of death.

Authorities have closed several popular campgrounds and backpacking areas along the PCT to prevent encounters with Decker and facilitate the search. Residents and visitors have been urged to be vigilant, avoid restricted areas, and report any suspicious activity. Law enforcement is distributing images of Decker and information regarding his likely appearance and survivalist background.

The incident has prompted questions about public alert systems when children under lawful custody arrangements go missing. While some suspect that the traditional Amber Alert system may not have been activated as soon as it could have been, it is unclear whether there will be any changes to the alert criteria in response to this incident.

As friends, family, and the community mourn the loss of three innocent lives, the search for Travis Decker continues. The public is encouraged to stay informed and heed any warnings issued by law enforcement agencies.
