Bremerhaven's 'Mobile Rescuers' App Pioneers Faster First Aid Response
Bremerhaven, Cuxhaven, and Osterholz have been pioneering a new smartphone-based first aid system since June 24, 2022. 'Mobile Rescuers' aims to increase the coverage of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and reduce response times in emergencies.
When an emergency call comes in, the system alerts nearby 'Mobile Rescuers' via the app to respond immediately. Ideally, two rescuers are alerted, and if an AED is nearby, a third person is alerted to pick it up and join them at the emergency location. The goal is to save valuable minutes in critical situations where every second counts.
In Bremerhaven, a test operation has started for direct integration of AEDs in schools. Now, school AEDs can be borrowed by 'Mobile Rescuers' in case of an emergency, expanding their availability. This initiative is expected to enhance the city's emergency response capabilities.
The Fire Department Bremerhaven can be contacted for inquiries at +49 (0) 471 - 95897 0 (24/7) or via email at [email protected]. The system alerts qualified 'Mobile Rescuers' along with emergency services, providing a multi-layered response to emergencies. This innovative approach is set to improve AED location coverage and potentially save lives.
