Toddler's Death in Kuala Terengganu: Father and Stepmother Remanded
A tragic incident has unfolded in Kuala Terengganu, where a 1 year and 11 months old boy has passed away due to injuries caused by blunt force trauma.
The incident occurred on August 6, 2025. The toddler, the youngest of two children, was brought to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital unconscious at 1pm by his 27-year-old father and 30-year-old stepmother. The couple initially claimed the toddler had fallen and injured his forehead, but he later became weak and limp.
At noon the previous day, the father found the child weak and his body limp while preparing to feed him milk. The child suffered from brain injuries, bruises, and wounds. In an attempt to prevent a seizure, the father massaged the boy's neck, causing a bruise.
Following investigations, the father admitted to hitting the victim with a clothes hanger. A post-mortem report indicated the cause of death as intracranial haemorrhage due to blunt force trauma.
The Kuala Terengganu police chief, Azli Noor, received a report about the toddler's death at 4.14pm on Wednesday. The couple was remanded for a week for further investigations. The couple's other son, aged three, is now under the care of the Social Welfare Department.
The father and stepmother were arrested shortly after the child’s burial and are facing charges under the Child Act 2001. The incident triggered police investigations following hospital notification of the child’s death.
Initially, the father applied ice to reduce the swelling, and the child began playing as normal. However, the true extent of the injuries was not apparent until later.
The police have confiscated the clothes hanger used in the assault. The tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of child safety and the consequences of child abuse.
