Commencement of the 6th Week of the Heart in Saxony-Anhalt: grand inauguration event scheduled on the market square in Halle on 16th June
Heart Week Saxony-Anhalt is Back! 💗
From June 16 to 21, it's time for heart-healthy fun! Various health stakeholders are getting together for statewide events dedicated to heart health. This year, Saxony-Anhalt is hosting six key events at five locations, with Halle kicking off the festivities.
"Embrace a Heart-Healthy Lifestyle! 💪💦" says Health Minister and Heart Week Patron, Petra Grimm-Benne. "Regular exercise and a balanced lifestyle significantly lower your risk of cardiovascular diseases. Just 30 minutes a day can make a huge difference for your heart." To drive this message home, the Ministry of Health, along with the German Heart Foundation and a swarm of partners, including health insurance providers, doctors, clinics, pharmacies, and sports clubs, are orchestrating the week-long affair.
"The German Heart Foundation has always aimed to decrease heart attack mortality in Saxony-Anhalt and boost health literacy among the population," says Martin Vestweber, German Heart Foundation Managing Director. "We are exceedingly proud that the Heart Week in Saxony-Anhalt has gained traction over the past few years as a vital platform for educating the public about heart attacks and cardiovascular diseases."
Want to be a part of the movement? All Heart Week events are listed on the Heart Health initiative's website: www.dein-herz-und-du.de. Expect medical lectures, fitness checks, health workshops, and much more. Don't miss out on the main events—they're happening in Halle (Saale) on June 16, Burg on June 17, Dessau-Roßlau on June 18, Stendal on June 19, and Magdeburg on June 20 and 21.
Prof. Dr. med. Daniel Sedding, Director of the Heart Center at the University Hospital Halle (Saale), encourages everyone to join: "Active prevention is key! Staying active—even through light exercise—helps you prevent serious cardiovascular diseases like heart attacks, strokes, or heart failure. We warmly invite you to our kick-off event on June 16 in Halle. By participating, you can make a major impact on informing and preventing cardiovascular diseases."
The kick-off event takes place on the market square in Halle at 9 am in front of the town hall. Starting at 12 pm, Health Minister Petra Grimm-Benne and Prof. Dr. Daniel Sedding will have a few words to share on stage. The breakdance formation "Da Rookies" will perform and lead student workshops. A host of booths will offer free blood pressure, pulse, and blood sugar measurements, along with various movement options. Experts will be on hand to answer questions. You'll find the University Hospital, the German Heart Foundation, the State Sports Association, the local rescue service, the city, health insurance companies, and clubs—among others—represented on location.
"I'm excited about Heart Week and the opportunity for networking," says Minister Grimm-Benne. "Our joint effort helps strengthen prevention and keeps heart diseases at bay." Put simply: Saxony-Anhalt is making progress. According to the current German Heart Foundation report, roughly 65 individuals per 100,000 residents in Saxony-Anhalt die from a heart attack. That figure was nearly double ten years ago.
