Handsome Brook Farms has issued a voluntary recall of over 10,000 cartons of Kirkland Signature Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs due to suspected Salmonella contamination. These eggs were shipped to Costco stores, likely from November 22, 2024.

The recall comes after Salmonella was detected in the production environment, with retail-unsuitable eggs accidentally sent to stores. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified this as a Class 1 recall, indicating a high health risk, and potentially fatal consequences.

Distinguish the recalled eggs by:

  • Packaging Label: "Kirkland Signature"
  • UPC Code: (Information not available in the initial report.)
  • Julian Code: 327
  • Best-before Date: January 5, 2025

Salmonella exposure may lead to symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain. Under severe conditions, the bacteria can enter the bloodstream, leading to life-threatening complications like arterial infections, endocarditis, or arthritis. Children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk.

Consumers who have bought the recalled eggs should stop consuming them immediately. Bring the cartons back to Costco for a full refund or dispose of them safely. No illnesses related to the recall have been reported as of now.

Handsome Brook Farms is cooperating with the FDA, implementing new supply chain controls, and retraining employees to prevent similar incidents.
