Criticizes Strategy of Robert Koch Institute by Lauterbach
In a recent article, SPD health policy expert Karl Lauterbach has expressed his concerns about the strategy of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in combating the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Lauterbach believes that the current approach is inefficient and that time is being wasted in tracing individual contacts.
Lauterbach suggests that 80% of new infections come from source clusters. He emphasizes the importance of identifying these source clusters quickly, such as weddings where many people became infected with the coronavirus, to prevent further spread. To accomplish this task, he proposes the deployment of corona detectives by health departments.
He further proposes that infected individuals should be isolated as quickly as possible. To facilitate this, Lauterbach suggests shortening the duration of quarantine from 14 days to ten days, with the possibility of being tested free of charge after five days.
However, Lauterbach also points out a significant issue with the current approach. He states that people who are contacted may have already been infected by the time they are reached. Contacts are being reached too late, according to Lauterbach, and many others have already been infected by then.
In response, Lauterbach demands that the RKI should urgently change its strategy and focus on isolating superspreader events. He believes that this shift in focus would be more effective in controlling the spread of the virus.
Lauterbach has shared his email address in the article for further discussion on the matter. His criticism of the RKI's strategy has sparked debate among health experts and policymakers, highlighting the need for a reevaluation of the current approach in the fight against the pandemic.
