Desperate woman seeks aid for her own wounds and her canine companion

Andrea Normantasz, a 38-year-old healing pedagogue and psychologist, finds herself in a critical situation after suffering a severe accident during a hike in the Rudersburg area on Easter Sunday. The incident occurred while she was taking a longer walk with her three dogs, planning to read in nature and return home to Breitbrunn am Chiemsee.

The accident left Normantasz with broken arms and injuries to several vertebrae. She is currently recovering in the Traunstein clinic, sharing her story with reporters while her phone is on speaker due to her injuries. In the mountain accident, she explains that she approached a stream on the normal hiking trail but failed to see a gorge.

"I slipped like when sledding," Normantasz recalls, explaining how she initially fell. After attempting to back away, she fell again and estimated that she dropped approximately 50 meters. In that moment, she believed she was going to die.

Luckily, her phone was in her jacket pocket and she managed to "scrape it out," making an emergency call. However, the subsequent search for her location proved difficult due to the terrain. Normantasz had to wait for hours, resting and conserving her strength. One of her three dogs fell with her and sustained a broken leg.

The 38-year-old subsequently faced a considerable search effort involving rescue services, drones, and even a police helicopter. After waiting for over four hours, rescuers located her, and she was eventually airlifted to safety.

Financial concerns now plague Normantasz, as she lives alone with her pets and is unable to work due to her injuries. Medical expenses are mounting, and she has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover the costs for her dogs' care. So far, over €2600 has been collected through the fundraising campaign.

Normantasz expresses her gratitude for the efforts of the mountain rescuers, stating that their actions were not a given and that she is aware that things could have turned out differently. She also praises the nurses and doctors at the Traunstein Clinic for their care and humanity.

Science may not be able to provide a definitive answer to why Andrea Normantasz had the misfortune of suffering a severe accident during a hike. However, health-and-wellness news outlets are sharing her story, highlighting the balance between outdoor activities and potential risks. Despite her traumatic experience involving general-news topics like accidents, Normantasz remains optimistic about her recovery, expressing gratitude for the efforts of rescuers, doctors, and the support she's received in the form of donations towards her mounting medical and pet care expenses.
