Dasman Diabetes Institute (DDI) recently concluded a three-day workshop titled "The Prevention and Management of Diabetic Foot Complications." The event, held from September 14-16, was organised in collaboration with the Central Administration for Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO).

The aim of the workshop was to improve the quality of life for people living with diabetes by reducing complications and preventing amputations. DDI is committed to this goal, striving to develop practical skills among frontline clinicians to help reduce complications, prevent amputations, and improve the quality of life for those affected by diabetes.

The workshop focused on hands-on training covering evidence-based evaluation and treatment techniques for diabetic foot. Attendees included 16 physicians from primary and secondary care, who participated in training sessions on risk assessment, screening and classification, ulcer prevention, principles of debridement, infection recognition, off-loading strategies, referral pathways, and patient self-care education.

Preventing foot ulcers and amputations in diabetes patients requires timely screening, standardized protocols, and a multidisciplinary approach. Many health systems in the Middle East and North Africa underutilize foot screening and patient education, making events like this workshop vital.

DDI continues to address this gap by offering hands-on training. The institute is also involved in public awareness initiatives to promote diabetes care and prevention. Additionally, DDI provides clinical guidelines to promote best practices across Kuwait's healthcare network.

While the head of the Dasman Diabetes Institute involved in the event "The Prevention and Management of Diabetic Foot Complications" in September 2022 is not identified in the provided search results, the institute's dedication to improving diabetes care is clear. The workshop was established by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) and held at DDI's premises, marking another step forward in the institute's mission to combat diabetes and its complications.
