In the heart of Dubai, the "Shade and Reward" initiative, a community wellbeing campaign, is making a significant impact on the lives of outdoor workers. Organised by the Positive Spirit Council in collaboration with Al Raffa Police Station, the General Department of Human Rights, and the "Thank You for Your Giving" volunteer team, this initiative aims to protect workers from heat stress and raise awareness about heat-related health risks.

Recently, in the Al Shindagha area, the initiative reached out to 250 workers, providing them with umbrellas to shield them from the sun while moving between work sites. The workers were also educated on practical tips to prevent heat exhaustion and sunstroke, such as staying hydrated and following basic health practices.

The campaign did not stop at providing material support. Workers were also informed about their legal rights, Dubai Police services, and emergency contact numbers (901 for non-emergencies and 999 for emergencies). This initiative is part of Dubai Police’s broader efforts supporting the UAE’s Year of Community, emphasising public safety, social harmony, tolerance, coexistence, and mutual respect.

Similar campaigns in the UAE include regulations enforced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), such as banning outdoor work under direct sunlight from 12:30 pm to 3 pm during summer months, requiring employers to provide cooling equipment, adequate drinking water, hydration supplements, and first aid supplies to protect workers from heat stress.

Other outreach programs by Dubai Police and UAE authorities frequently focus on worker safety, legal rights education, and health awareness, often in collaboration with volunteer groups and government departments. Visual reports and posts on social media also document similar distributions where hundreds of laborers receive umbrellas and health information as part of ongoing efforts to support worker wellbeing in extreme heat conditions.

This initiative exemplifies Dubai's commitment to improving outdoor workers' health and safety, particularly during the intense summer season, through practical support and community engagement. It is a testament to Dubai Police's commitment to enhancing public safety and promoting social harmony.
