Amplified Covid-19 Tally in Thailand: A Shocking 76K New Cases and 40 Deaths in a Week!

During the preceding week, more than 76,000 new Covid-19 cases were documented.

Here's the freshest update from the Department of Disease Control (DDC): Over 76,000 new Covid cases were recorded between June 8 and 14, setting the total case count since January 1 to a staggering 476K!

Of the total new cases, around 96% (72K+) were hospitalized, while approximately 5% (4K+) were managed as outpatients. This suggests a clear emphasis on monitoring and immediate hospitalization for those at risk.

Sadly, the DDC confirmed 40 more Covid-related deaths during this period, bringing the grim death toll since the start of the year to 154.

The five provinces with the highest number of new Covid cases last week were:

  • Bangkok: It's a soul-crushing 17.9K+
  • Chonburi: 3.3K+
  • Nakhon Ratchasima: 3K+
  • Chiang Mai: 2.7K+
  • Rayong: 1.8K+

A bone-chilling revelation from the DDC stated that seniors aged 60 and above being the hardest-hit group, with over 14.7K+ cases recorded recently among this group[1][3].

Senior's Survival Guide: Staying Ahead of the Curve

Vaccination and Boosters

  • Regular Vaccination: Authorities urge seniors and those in the "608 group" to stay updated with Covid-19 vaccinations and receive booster doses to minimize the risk of severe illness.
  • Vaccines have made their way easily into the hands of older adults through health facilities and vaccination centers.

Public Health Recommendations

  • Mask Wearing: The Ministry of Public Health advises the public—especially seniors—to don masks in crowded or confined spaces[3].
  • The universal practice of regularly washing hands or using hand sanitizers remains paramount.
  • Seniors are encouraged to steer clear of crowded places and gatherings.

Monitoring and Early Detection

  • Symptom Monitoring: Close attention to health status for typical symptoms such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing is recommended.
  • Seniors experiencing symptoms should seek quick testing and medical attention to ensure early treatment and isolation, thus reducing the likelihood of severe outcomes.

Hospitalization and Outpatient Care

  • The recent high number of hospitalizations indicates ongoing monitoring and early treatment for those at risk.

Community and Family Support

  • Family Protection: Families are asked to prioritize protecting vulnerable members by adhering to preventive measures themselves.
  • Community Outreach: Local health authorities are proactive in ensuring seniors receive relevant information and support regarding vaccination and preventive measures.
