Enforcing Covid-19 Adherence Checkup
Knowledge Crushed to Truth Shall Rise Again: A Critical Look at Mass Formation in the COVID Years
A wake-up call to individuality and skepticism, with insights from Martin Desmet’s psychological theories
Most individuals didn't realize that the COVID era (2020-2023) marked a global Crisis of Conformity. Like any test, people scored across a Normal Distribution Curve.
Ace to Ace+: An elusive minority (2-10%) defied all nonsense. They dismissed social distancing, masks, PCR tests, hand sanitizers, and vaccines. They lost jobs, friends, and family for their rebellious stance. However, their unwavering spirit earned them a pass with flying colors. Unfortunately, they were often demonized as "selfish", "conspiracy theorists", "Grandma killers", and "ignorers of science". These rebels tended to rely on alternative media, think independently, and lean towards conservative beliefs—the modern-day Patrick Henry's.
B to D: The majority (The Bellwethers) were caught in the middle. They lacked certainty and wished to fit in. Though not enthralled by COVID, they complied to avoid criticism. They trusted traditional media sources, even when doubtful about the narrative.
F: A small minority (The Blind Faithful) enthusiastically embraced every mandate without question. They denounced anyone not fully compliant and relished labelling them "anti-vaxxers". They worshipped Dr. Anthony Fauci and Bill Gates—the benevolent idols of the mainstream press.
Mass Formation and the Psychology of Seduction
Mattias Desmet, a professor of psychology at Ghent University, introduced the concept of "Mass Formation" (also known as "Mass Formation Psychosis") during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Desmet, a collective form of hypnosis can take hold under specific conditions, driving large portions of a population to become highly suggestible and resistant to contradictory information[1][3][4].
The formation of mass beliefs follows a few key elements:
- A Feeling of Disconnection: Pre-existing social isolation and escalating anxiety can make individuals more vulnerable to joining a collective movement or narrative.
- Engulfing Fear: Fear and anxiety play a critical role in creating conditions where mass formation can occur. Fear breeds a subconscious seeking for comfort and security in a unifying narrative.
- Media and Authority: Consistent dissemination of information through media sources and the endorsement of narratives by authorities can amplify the phenomenon. People are more likely to accept a narrative if it's presented by trusted figures.
- Immunity to Contradictory Information: Once a mass formation takes hold, followers become less open to dissenting viewpoints. Their resistance to opposing ideas is a hallmark of the phenomenon.
COVID-19, a Petri Dish for Mass Formation
During the COVID era, Desmet's theory shed light on why many people accepted the dominant COVID narrative without a second thought. The combination of prevailing fear, social isolation, and consistent messaging made from authorities and media sources created a fertile ground for mass formation[1][3][4].
Consequences of Mass Formation
Mass formations are temporary and usually discredited in retrospect. History often reveals its folly, as mass madness becomes apparent with time. This concept may also explain why some individuals, despite suffering vaccine injuries or other adverse consequences, remained steadfast in their support of the narrative—indicating the psychological grip of mass formation[5].
Moving Beyond the Illusion of Safety
At a time when truth seems obscured by ever-shifting moral values, cultural double standards, and manipulated realities, critical thinking and skepticism have never been more crucial. Recognizing the power of mass formation can empower individuals to break free from conformity and resist being swayed by fear-mongered narratives that lead to dangerous policies without question[2].
Quotes from Change Agents
- "Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of leaders and millions have been killed because of this obedience." - Howard Zinn[4]
- "The first thing that should happen is that people need to immediately stop doing what their government tells them to do just because the government is telling them to do it. 'I was just following orders' is not an excuse to commit atrocities." - Charlie Robinson[4]
- "[Mass Formation] hides the fact that some people like being told what to do. They prefer to be told what is required of them because it just makes things easier to understand and plan for." - Charlie Robinson[4]
- "The Nuremberg Code has moved into the discussion about how people will be treated by those in positions of power, as well as what may happen to those that knowingly and willfully break the code." - Charlie Robinson[4]
