Moreover, iron deficiency is detrimental to fertility and can cause severe anemia during pregnancy if left untreated. This is particularly relevant given that fertility rates in the US dropped to an all-time low in 2024. Ironic Biotech's protein can be used to fortify various products, such as probiotics, gummies, orange juice, and plant-based milk, making it widely accessible and convenient for consumers. The company's initial applications will be in premium supplements and fortified foods. Interestingly, the company behind the new precision-fermented heme iron protein is not Ironic Biotech, but Impossible Foods, a well-known player in the plant-based food industry. This collaboration underscores the potential of precision fermentation in addressing global health challenges.
