The programme also includes hearing assessments to detect early hearing impairments and cardiac screenings aimed at identifying critical congenital heart defects before symptoms appear.
Digital Healthcare Platform Integration
The 'Riayati' digital healthcare platform plays a significant role in the initiative. This platform integrates patient data from public and private hospitals into a unified national medical record system, enhancing automation, accuracy, clinical decision-making, and patient safety.

The programme operates through a unified hospital network nationwide, including private hospital partnerships, and is continuously updated to incorporate evolving international best practices and additional screening tests as needed.
Abu Dhabi's Newborn Genetic Screening Programme
In Abu Dhabi, the Department of Health (DoH) has launched a cutting-edge Newborn Genetic Screening Programme. This initiative offers whole genome sequencing for screening over 815 treatable childhood genetic conditions, making it one of the most comprehensive genomic screening efforts worldwide. The programme currently operates in select hospitals and plans gradual expansion throughout the emirate.
