Expanded workforce at the University Hospital of Cuenca, totaling 400 additional professionals.
The University Hospital of Cuenca (HUCU) is set to revolutionise healthcare in the region, following a significant investment and strategic growth over the past decade. The hospital, which is expected to take over from the Hospital Virgen de la Luz, was the centre of attention recently as key figures from the healthcare sector gathered for a special event.
The event, held in the hall of the new hospital, paid tribute to 342 retirees from the years 2020 to 2024. María Ángeles López, the delegate of the Junta in Cuenca, and José María Pastor, the delegate of Health, were among the attendees. The occasion also highlighted the roles played by Jesús Val, Manuel Tordera, Ángel Pérez Sola, and Juan Luis Bardají in the completion of the HUCU.
The HUCU has been equipped with the latest healthcare technology and boasts a design adapted for the comfort of patients and professionals. Its objective is to become a national reference in healthcare, a goal that seems within reach given the significant growth in staff and investment.
Over the last ten years, the staff of the Integrated Care Management of Cuenca has grown by 235 people, a 12 percent increase. This expansion is expected to continue, with the HUCU set to employ an additional 400 professionals. The Executive of Castilla-La Mancha has invested 200 million euros in the construction and equipment of the HUCU, a testament to its commitment to improving healthcare services in the region.
The planned transfer of patients from the Virgen de la Luz to the University Hospital will be developed in weekly blocks until October. The first patients are expected to be attended at the University Hospital on July 29, starting with the Magnetic Resonance service. The management of the Integrated Area of Cuenca is coordinating this transfer.
The construction of the HUCU was previously paralysed for three years, but the commitment of the government of García-Page ensured its completion. The HUCU is now poised to take over from the Hospital Virgen de la Luz, which currently ranks 38th in the national healthcare reputation monitor.
