Father Arranges Charity Event for Children's Hospital in Ingolstadt Due to Child's Leukemia Tragedy
In the heart of Ingolstadt, the Café Tagtraum played host to over 160 participants who came together on Friday for the "Rosalie fights and Papa runs" event. The charity run was initiated by Christian Schimmer, Rosalie's father, as a memorial for his daughter who lost her battle against leukemia at the end of June.
The participants were invited to donate one euro per kilometer they ran, with the aim of raising funds for enhanced community programs and essential support related to Rosalie's cause. Donations could also be made on-site in a donation box, or online via a link available on the Instagram profile "rosaliekaempft-papalaeuft".
As a sign of solidarity, the runners released balloons into the sky before the start of the run. The runners aimed to maintain a pace of about 6.5 minutes per kilometer during the run, and were invited to end the evening with a musical program by the Tagtraum team.
The event was not just a tribute to Rosalie, but also a recognition of the nursing staff at the Haunersche Children's Hospital in Munich, where Rosalie was treated. Christian Schimmer expressed his gratitude to the hospital staff and drew attention to the appreciation of the work of nurses through the action.
The fundraising efforts were complemented by broader community involvement, including opportunities to donate items or funds remotely through wishlists or direct donations to related nonprofits. Participants included individuals supporting charitable causes, such as Rosalie Hinrichs participating in "Pedal the Cause," a fundraising ride connected to the charity run. Donations can also be made by check (payable to Pedal the Cause) and mailed to a designated address in Chicago.
A $100 donation supports enhanced Community Engagement and Events, while a $1000 donation helps provide broader essential support. Christian Schimmer appealed to the participants to run as far as possible during the action, as every step taken brings hope and support to those affected by leukemia.
Peter Maier, who learned about the action through social media, participated as a sign of respect for Christian Schimmer's efforts. Martin Kraus, a former schoolmate of Christian Schimmer, heard about the action through the newspaper and supported the family.
The "Rosalie fights and Papa runs" event was a poignant reminder of the power of community support and the difference that each individual can make in the fight against leukemia. The event not only honoured Rosalie's memory, but also served as a testament to the strength and resilience of her family and the broader community.
