The Two-Year Anniversary of the Defenders of the Fatherland Fund in Sverdlovsk

Celebrating its second year on June 1st, the Sverdlovsk branch of the Defenders of the Fatherland fund has been a beacon of aid for thousands of Special Military Operation (SVO) participants and their families. With a team of dedicated social coordinators - 74 strong - this fund offers extensive support in municipal formations.

"For two vigorous years, we've been in operation in the Sverdlovsk region. We've welcomed over 8,000 individuals seeking our help," said Ilgar Yakupov, head of the Sverdlovsk branch of the Defenders of the Fatherland fund. "Each beneficiary receives personalized attention from our team, ensuring issues are addressed promptly and effectively. We're grateful for the trust placed in us by the SVO veterans and their loved ones."

The Defenders of the Fatherland fund addresses various issues faced by the recipients, offering assistance in multiple domains. These range from medical, psychological, and legal support to labor rehabilitation programs, socialization initiatives, and more. Legal issues have been a particular focus, with over 3,300 resolved during the two-year span. The fund has forged agreements with local authorities, including the Ministry of Justice, notarial, and bar associations, ensuring specialists from the State Legal Bureau conduct regular consultations.

Another vital aspect of their work centers around assisting SVO participants with disabilities. Adaptive sports are gaining momentum, with 65 Sverdlovsk veterans regularly participating in sled hockey, fencing, shooting, sitting volleyball, arm wrestling, powerlifting, and other disciplines.

As part of their support, the fund provides recipients with rehabilitation equipment such as sports prosthetics, wheelchairs, smart canes, and vehicles fitted with hand controls. Additionally, they adapt apartments for individuals with musculoskeletal, vision, or hearing impairments, installing smart home elements to control electrical appliances, lighting, and curtains remotely. Currently, five apartments have been upgraded, and 23 more applications are on the way to completion by the end of 2025.

The Defenders of the Fatherland fund has been instrumental in aiding SVO participants. Over 800 individuals have received rehabilitation and sanatorium treatments, while 567 have benefited from psychological care. Around a thousand people have undergone dispensarization, and more than 400 have been assisted with employment and training in desired fields.

The state-run Defenders of the Fatherland fund, established in 2023 by Russian President Vladimir Putin, was created to provide personalized support to SVO veterans and their families. In addition to medical and social rehabilitation, the fund also offers assistance with retraining and employment, legal support, housing adaptations, and long-term home care.
