Free State endorses panels with a sum of 400,000 units

Saxony, the Free State in eastern Germany, has announced its continued support for food banks in the region. The state has allocated 400,000 euros for investments by food banks in the state budget for 2025.

The investment funding, managed by the Saxon Development Bank (SAB), aims to optimize the operation of food banks in various aspects, including logistics, premises, safety, occupational safety, energy efficiency, hygiene, and regulations. Individual project proposals can receive between 2,500 euros and a maximum of 30,000 euros.

Eligible expenses for funding include smaller construction measures, new and replacement purchases of transport equipment, and furniture and equipment items. However, it's important to note that the investment funding does not directly mention providing support for volunteer allowances.

The registration deadline for investment funding applications for Saxonische Tafeln is March 15, 2025. Project applications must be submitted to the SAB by October 9, 2025. The SAB website provides information on the current application process for investment funding.

Carriers of Saxon food banks can submit applications for funding. The Free State of Saxony supports 45 food bank facilities and the state association "Tafel Sachsen e.V." in providing food for needy people.

In addition to the investment funding, the "Wir für Sachsen" volunteer funding program provides a monthly flat-rate allowance for volunteers working at food banks in Saxony. Information on the application process for this program can be found on a specific page.

Minister of Social Affairs Petra Köpping expressed her pleasure at continuing to support food banks in 2025, despite the tight budget situation. The food banks operate around 110 stationary and mobile food distribution points, combating food waste and distributing rescued and donated food to needy people. The main beneficiaries of the funded measures are the food bank customers and volunteers.

The investment funding and the volunteer funding program are both funded by the Free State of Saxony, demonstrating the state's commitment to addressing food insecurity and supporting its volunteers.
