Galway Woman Launches HidraWear: Clothing Line for HS Sufferers
Galway woman Suzanne Moloney, 37, has opened up about her life with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), a chronic skin condition causing painful bumps and boils. She has launched HidraWear, a clothing line tailored for people with HS, after years of struggling with self-consciousness and discomfort.
Moloney's HS breakouts occur in various sensitive areas, including the armpits, groin, inner thighs, and under the breasts. The condition has no known cure, with treatment focusing on managing symptoms and preventing complications. As a chef, Moloney found adhesive wound dressings uncomfortable and ineffective in her sweaty work environment. This led to her initiating HidraWear, aiming to provide comfortable and secure clothing for HS sufferers.
In 2012, during a bachelorette party, a wound dressing fell out of her sleeve, sparking the idea for HidraWear. The brand specialises in forearm clothing that stays in place, preventing leakage and discomfort. Moloney's tips for living with HS include talking openly about the condition, connecting with the HS community, finding comfortable clothes, staying active, and practising self-care.
Moloney hopes her story encourages others with HS to seek support and comfort, avoiding the isolation and humiliation she experienced. HidraWear is now available in Ireland, offering a practical solution for those dealing with the physical and emotional challenges of HS.
