In an incident that attracted a significant response from emergency services, four teenage girls aged 16 to 17 were rescued by boat in the Rostock district on Saturday evening. The incident occurred in Guestrow, at a remote boathouse located at the Guestrower Inselsee.

The girls were reportedly found unresponsive or barely responsive after consuming hashish-laced brownies, a form of THC edibles. The consumption of such substances can cause serious health issues in teenagers, including mental, physical, and cognitive effects.

Symptoms range from sensory distortions, nausea, vomiting, motor coordination loss, increased heart rate and blood pressure, to psychiatric problems like anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and confusion. In this case, the girls exhibited several of these symptoms.

The emergency services on the scene included police, firefighters, and rescue personnel. A large number of responders were present due to the remote location of the boathouse, which required the use of a rescue boat from the Guestrow volunteer fire department to transport the teenagers to shore.

Once on shore, the girls were taken to the local children's hospital by ambulance for further medical treatment. The hospital staff are reportedly monitoring their vital signs and providing psychological support for any anxiety or panic episodes.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with the consumption of THC edibles, particularly during adolescence when the brain is still developing. Prevention strategies include educating teens and parents about the risks, implementing safe storage and packaging regulations, and limiting access to THC edibles among teenagers.

It is crucial that parents and teens are aware of the potential negative effects of marijuana on mental health and brain function, regardless of its legal status. Schools, communities, and healthcare providers also have a role to play in discouraging the use of THC edibles among teenagers.

This incident underscores the importance of timely medical intervention when ingestion occurs. It is hoped that the four girls will make a full recovery and that this incident will serve as a warning to others about the dangers of consuming hashish-laced brownies and other THC edibles.

Science plays a vital role in understanding the health-and-wellness effects of THC edibles, particularly on mental-health. Reports suggest that therapies-and-treatments for teens who have ingested THC, like the rescued girls, should focus on addressing psychiatric problems such as anxiety, panic attacks, and confusion, in addition to physical symptoms.
