Crafting the Future of Cosmetics: A Sneak Peek into Provital's Innovations at IFSCC 2023

The cosmetics world is abuzz with anticipation as the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) gears up for its prestigious annual gathering in Barcelona, Spain, from September 4 to 7, 2023. Known as the "Nobel Prize of cosmetic science," this event is a hive of information sharing and collaboration among the crème de la crème of cosmetic formulators.

With the theme "Rethinking Beauty Science," the 33rd IFSCC Congress promises to be a powerhouse of innovation, technology, and added value in the cosmetics sector. Here's a glimpse of what to expect, taking a panoramic view through Provital's lens.

Redefining the Future of Cosmetic Science

IFSCC is a global federation dedicated to international cooperation in cosmetic and technological science. Comprising 51 societies from 81 countries and boasting 16,000 members, it sets the bar high for scientific and educational qualifications. Networking with major brands like L'Oréal and Shiseido, Provital has been an active participant in IFSCC congresses since 1992, committed to the scientific positioning of our active ingredient manufacturing.

For Provital, collaboration is the essential catalyst for scientific progress. As such, we will be present at the 2023 IFSCC Congress to showcase our main efficacy innovations, from the skin's circadian rhythm to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the plant microbiome. Here's a sneak peek at what we'll be bringing to the table:

Altheostem™

Cellular senescence is a rich field for groundbreaking discoveries. As the accumulation of senescent cells over time is linked to visible signs of advanced skin aging, our goal is to create an ingredient that targets the elimination of senescent skin cells.

Our early foray into this field led us to discover that Althaea Rosea stem cells induce selective elimination of senescent cells in vitro. In this new chapter, we'll share the results of our in vivo study, demonstrating the rejuvenating effects of this active ingredient on skin radiance, elasticity, thickness, and the reduction in the volume and depth of wrinkles, all revealed by AI tools.

Circanblue™

Recent research has unveiled the effects of blue light exposure on circadian rhythms, leading to skin issues such as facial fatigue signs and premature aging. Our research in cosmetic formulations delved deeper into the cumulative small perturbations affecting the skin cell's biological clock. The results showed that a postbiotic ingredient (fermented lactococcus lactis lysate, LLFL) helped reverse this desynchronization, restoring the expression rhythm of key genes back to their baseline levels.

Next-gen Hair Science

Our efforts in the hair care segment aim to protect hair against environmental factors, harmful products, and treatments. Through natural ingredients and active extracts from marine macroalgae, we will soon launch an associated active ingredient. Additionally, we've explored hair fiber damage and discovered an innovative fruit extract capable of protecting the lipid surface and improving overall hair appearance.

Plant Endophytes for the Future

Endophytes - symbiotic microorganisms living inside plants - are a promising source of high-value natural cosmetic ingredients. They can help alleviate severe environmental issues, such as excessive land use and loss of biodiversity, while allowing access to countless positive applications of plant-based natural ingredients. Provital has successfully developed a platform for the isolation and biotechnological production of plant endophytes as a sustainable source of traceable natural cosmetic active ingredients.

These innovations underscore Provital's commitment to pushing the boundaries of cosmetic science, aiming to create a sustainable industry that delivers ingredient effectiveness while minimizing environmental impact. Stay tuned for more updates from the IFSCC Congress – we're thrilled to be a part of this revolutionary journey!

  1. At the IFSCC Congress, Provital will showcase its main innovations that merge science and health-and-wellness, particularly in skin-care, such as Altheostem™ and Circanblue™.
  2. In addition to skin-care advancements, Provital's research also extends to next-generation hair science, using natural ingredients and active extracts from marine macroalgae, and exploring plant endophytes for a sustainable and biodiverse source of cosmetic active ingredients.
