Gunfire Incident at Odd Danville Confrontation; Armed Suspect Engages in Surprise Swim
In the early hours of July 21, 2025, an unusual armed standoff unfolded in Danville, California, on the 1900 block of St. Norbert Drive. The incident involved 53-year-old Timothy Bancroft, who allegedly fired multiple gunshots, including one believed to be aimed at police officers.
The standoff began with a report of a man with a gun in the area. Neighbors were advised to shelter in place as police set up a perimeter and attempted to contact the person inside the house. As the standoff continued, Bancroft resisted police negotiation attempts, but events took an unexpected turn when he reportedly disrobed and entered his backyard pool.
Despite the unusual behaviour, police persisted with their efforts to de-escalate the situation. Eventually, Bancroft surrendered to the authorities. Police confiscated a pistol and other weapons from the scene.
Bancroft was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm. His bail was set between $100,000 and $200,000, and he remains in custody at Martinez Detention Facility, awaiting arraignment.
