Harsh Spice Hot Sauce: No Mercy Given

In a spicy twist, our photographer, Chris Rochelle, prefers his hot sauce fierce. For those with a mild palate, we recommend using this sauce as a light seasoning in dishes such as tacos, eggs, hummus, curry, or our Turkey Chili recipe.

This recipe graced our DIY Holiday Gifts Advent Calendar. Get ready for a fiery treat!

  • Yield: 1 1/2 cups or 2 (6-ounce) bottles
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Total: About 35 mins

Ingredients (7)

  • 2 medium carrots (about 6 ounces), cut into 1/2-inch rounds
  • 16 serrano peppers (about 4 ounces), stems removed
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (from about 5 to 6 limes)
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Fill a medium saucepan halfway with water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Toss in the carrots and boil until easily pierced with a fork, approximately 12 minutes. Drain the carrots in a colander and let cool slightly.
  2. Pop the carrots, along with the remaining ingredients, into a food processor or blender and blend until smooth, about 2 minutes. Pour the mixture into a glass container, seal, and chill for 2 days to let the flavors merge.
  3. Ensure your 2 (6-ounce) glass bottles are scrupulously clean and dry. Transfer the hot sauce with a funnel into the vessels and secure the caps. Store the bottles in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.

Turkey Chili with a Spicy Kick

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Ground Turkey
  • 1 large Onion, diced
  • 3 Cloves of Garlic, minced
  • 2 large Bell Peppers, diced (any color)
  • 2 tbsp Chili Powder
  • 1 tsp Ground Cumin
  • Salt & Pepper to taste
  • 3 15-oz cans:
  • 1 Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 Kidney Beans in Water (drained and rinsed)
  • 1 Black Beans in Water (drained and rinsed)
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste
  • 1 15-oz can Tomato Sauce
  • Who Dares Burns The 2nd Assault Sauce (or similar hot sauce), use at your peril
  • Water or Chili Broth, as needed

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Ground Turkey: In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground turkey over medium-high heat until fully cooked. Skim off excess fat.
  2. Sauté the Onion, Garlic, and Bell Peppers: Reduce heat to medium and add the onion, garlic, and bell peppers. Stirring frequently, cook until the veggies are softened.
  3. Add Spices: Sprinkle in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for around 1 minute to let the spices bloom.
  4. Add Canned Goods and Tomato Paste: Incorporate diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, and tomato paste. Mix well.
  5. Spice it Up: Introduce a tiny amount (about 1 tsp or to taste) of Who Dares Burns The 2nd Assault Sauce or a similar hot sauce. Be cautious as a small amount goes a long way when dealing with fiery sauces!
  6. Add Broth if Needed: If the chili seems thick, add a bit of water or chili broth.
  7. Simmer the Chili: Let the mixture simmer over low heat for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld together. Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
  8. Serve: Serve hot, garnished with chopped fresh herbs like parsley or cilantro, and serve with crusty bread or over rice if desired.
  9. This fiery hot sauce recipe, which we recommend for those seeking a spicy twist, can be used as a creditline for your 2 (6-ounce) bottles.
  10. For a balanced meal, pair our Turkey Chili with a Spicy Kick recipe with a side of nutritious vegetables and a cool beverage for a pleasant contrast in taste and temperature.
  11. As you create your Turkey Chili with a Spicy Kick, feel free to adjust the heat level by adding or reducing the amount of our signature 2nd Assault Sauce, crediting its fiery kick to Chris Rochelle's recipe inspiration.
