Spiced Orange-Infused Tea

Ingredients: (Adjust to taste)

  • 8 star anise pods, finely crushed
  • 1 teaspoon orange blossom water
  • 1 vanilla pod (or 1 tablespoon vanilla extract)
  • Pinch ground cloves
  • Pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup loose Chinese black tea leaves
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • Red food coloring (optional)
  • Half-and-half or sweetened condensed milk

Directions:

  1. Boil 1/2 gallon of cold water in a large pot.
  2. Add crushed star anise, orange blossom water, vanilla scrapings (or extract), cloves, cinnamon, and Chinese black tea leaves.
  3. Let it boil for 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from heat, stir in sugar and red food coloring (for a traditional look). Cover and let it steep until it's tepid.
  5. Strain the tea into a large serving pitcher filled with crushed ice.
  6. Top with half-and-half or sweetened condensed milk.
