BD Launches INSPIRE Initiative to Boost Infusion Therapy Safety and Nursing Quality Nationwide in India

India-initiated INSPIRE Program aimed at enhancing IV line safety and nursing proficiency nationwide.

In a significant move towards enhancing patient safety and nursing excellence, BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) has partnered with the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) India to launch the INSPIRE initiative. The program, aimed at transforming IV-line care practices, focuses on elevating the standards of infusion therapy by fostering professional collaboration among nurses, enhancing clinical and safety practices, and empowering the nursing workforce [1][5].

The INSPIRE program is designed to promote safer infusion therapy practices and reduce risks such as needle stick injuries and catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) [1]. It achieves this through various key elements. These include organizing events and sessions with nursing professionals and educators to share best practices and the latest guidelines on infusion safety, cultivating a culture of patient and healthcare worker safety, and empowering the new generation of nurses by providing a platform for learning, exchange, and leadership in infusion therapy care [1].

The initiative made its debut in Pune, attracting over 50 prominent nursing leaders. The event featured a panel discussion titled "Safeguarding Care: A Dual Focus on Patient and Healthcare Worker Safety" [1]. Sessions on needle stick injury prevention, infusion safety, and CRBSI guidelines were also part of the programme.

Atul Grover, the Managing Director of BD India/South Asia, emphasised BD's commitment to the initiative. BD, one of the largest global medical technology companies in the world, helps customers enhance outcomes, lower costs, increase efficiencies, improve safety, and expand access to health care [1].

The INSPIRE initiative is part of BD's broader commitment to transform IV-line care and enhance patient outcomes in healthcare settings nationwide [1]. The program also aims to improve clinical standards, foster professional development, and ensure patient safety.

By promoting learning and collaboration amongst nursing professionals, the INSPIRE initiative is poised to make a significant impact on the quality of healthcare in India. As the program continues to grow and evolve, it is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the future of infusion therapy in the country.
