Indore's MTH receives ₹25 lakh for launching the first newborn monitoring project in the state
In the heart of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, MTH Hospital is set to revolutionise neonatal healthcare with the launch of the state's first e-Shishu online monitoring pilot project. This initiative, part of the National Health Mission, aims to reduce newborn mortality rates in Madhya Pradesh.
Funded with Rs 25 lakh, the project will see the establishment of a 24x7 health monitoring control room at MTH Hospital. Staffed with two paediatricians and dedicated nursing personnel, this control room will connect with Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) in government hospitals across 17 districts, including Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar, and Jhabua.
Through Zoom video conferencing, these staff members will remotely monitor infants in these SNCUs, facilitating real-time online health monitoring. This innovative approach is designed to facilitate timely intervention for critically ill newborns, potentially improving survival chances.
The e-Shishu project is expected to make a significant impact on the neonatal sector in Madhya Pradesh. With an estimated total cost of ₹1 crore, this project represents a major advancement in neonatal digital healthcare in the region. It is targeted to launch by 15 September 2025.
While the project does not provide information about the impact of real-time online monitoring on the cost of healthcare services, it is clear that this initiative offers a promising solution for improving the health and wellbeing of newborns in Madhya Pradesh.
The e-Shishu project, backed by a budget of ₹1 crore, seeks to enhance health-and-wellness in Madhya Pradesh by incorporating science and technology in neonatal healthcare. By implementing real-time online monitoring using Zoom video conferencing, this innovative initiative aims to reduce newborn mortality rates and improve the health of infants, ultimately revolutionizing health services in the state.
