Indulge in Turin's Chocolate Splendor: Prepare a Delicious Bicerin

Savor the Charm of Bicerin, a Timeless Italian Delight! Hailing from the coffee-loving city of Turin, this remarkable blend of chocolate, espresso, and cream might just become your new best friend. Delve into our effortless recipe to recreate this classic tradition at home.

While I was at Terra Madre in Turin, the self-proclaimed chocolate capital of Italy, I was on a relentless quest to satisfy my sweet tooth. But let's face it, even chocoholics have their limits. So, I opted to indulge in the legendary Bicerin from the renowned Caffè Al Bicerin. Here's my take on this unforgettable chocolate and espresso tower.

Let's get the ball rolling: For a provocative spin, include 1 1/2 ounces of Patrón XO Café or another coffee-flavored liqueur in the hot chocolate prior to construction.

My recipe for Bicerin was showcased in our collection of Hot Spirited Drinks.

  • Yield: 1 beverage
  • Difficulty: A breeze
  • Total Time: Less than 5 minutes
  • Active Time: Less than 5 minutes

Ingredients (3)

  • 1 1/2 ounces freshly pulled espresso
  • 1 1/2 ounces freshly prepared hot chocolate, such as our Unmatched Hot Chocolate
  • 1 1/2 ounces chilled heavy cream

Directions

  1. Stick a cocktail shaker in the freezer until icy cold, for at least 10 minutes. Fill a big heatproof glass with boiling water from the tap and set it aside.
  2. When ready to serve, discard the water and dry the glass. Start by pouring the espresso at the bottom of the glass, followed by a gentle pour of the hot chocolate while tilting the glass slightly. Take the chilled shaker out of the freezer, add the cream, and shake vigerously until frothy (at least 20 times). Spoon the shaken cream on top of the hot chocolate and serve immediately.
