Launches the Third Action Week to Combat Solitude, Initiative by Prien - Initiate weekly activities combating isolation, initiated by Prien during the third week.
Germany's Third Action Week Against Loneliness Kicks Off
A survey conducted last December by Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) revealed that more than half of the population in Germany, regardless of age, experience feelings of loneliness. Younger generations seem to be particularly affected. Previously, the federal government implemented a strategy against loneliness, which will be continued by Karin Prien, the initiator of this third Action Week Against Loneliness.
Commencing on Sunday, Prien's Action Week aims to combat the increasing problem of loneliness among individuals across Germany. The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) member issued a welcoming statement, inviting everyone to participate.
According to the survey, nearly six out of ten people in Germany suffer from loneliness, which the former federal government addressed with a strategy. Prien will build upon this foundation, aiming to strengthen social connections and foster dialogue to break the societal taboo around loneliness.
When Prien's Action Week concludes, it is expected to have contributed to the federal government's broader strategy to address loneliness, which includes 111 measures focused on enhancing social interactions and preventing and alleviating feelings of isolation. Launched at the end of 2023, this strategy targets individuals across all age groups.
In doing so, Prien's Action Week will join the "Together out of loneliness" campaign week organized by the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMBFSFJ), which seeks to increase visibility and promote discussions about loneliness. Additionally, the strategy encourages social interaction among diverse age groups, contributing to a culture of openness and support.
While it is unclear what specific initiatives will be undertaken during Prien's Action Week, it will likely provide avenues for community engagement and support to combat loneliness, aligning with national efforts to address the problem.
The community policy of Karin Prien's Action Week, aimed at combating loneliness, follows the strategy employed by the former federal government. This Action Week, positioned within a broader strategy, encourages employment within health-and-wellness and mental-health sectors to foster social connections and combat loneliness, as part of the campaign against societal taboos.
