In the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases continues to rise, with a total of 2,937 individuals infected as of January 16. Among the current cases, the highly transmissible Omikron variant has been detected in 784 cases, while the Delta variant has been found in 183 cases.
The Omikron variant's rapid spread comes as the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has revised the guidelines for the recovered status, reducing the unrestricted access period from 180 days to 90 days, effective from January 15. However, it's important to note that recovery certificates are no longer recognised as valid for unrestricted access or as a substitute for vaccination requirements in Germany.
The current regulations emphasise vaccination status over recovered status for access and public health measures. Recovery certificates may grant temporary access rights or exemptions, but their validity is limited, often up to 90 days after recovery confirmation. After this period, their validity for unrestricted access ends, and individuals are generally required to be vaccinated according to the current vaccination schedule to maintain access without restrictions.
In the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, 757 of the current infected individuals belong to the group under 20 years of age. As of January 16, the 7-day incidence value for the district stands at 302.0. Unfortunately, the number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains unchanged at 424.
Currently, 16 individuals are hospitalised due to their coronavirus infection in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, of whom 6 are vaccinated. It's worth noting that none of the hospitalised individuals have received a booster shot.

Scientists are closely monitoring the spread of the Omikron variant, as it accounts for a significant number of medical-conditions related to COVID-19 in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. In line with this, the updated health-and-wellness guidelines recommend maintaining vaccination status for unrestricted access, rather than relying on recovery certificates.
