Isolation Required for Contact Case!

In the ever-evolving landscape of the COVID-19 pandemic, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) has issued a new Corona test and quarantine ordinance, effective since May 5, 2022. This article aims to provide a concise overview of the key changes in the ordinance.

The isolation periods for infected individuals have been shortened, allowing for release as early as the fifth day with a negative test. However, it is important to note that an official test (either a citizen test or a PCR test) is required for early release from isolation in NRW.

For close contacts, if symptoms appear, a test should be taken. To minimise further spread, close contacts are advised to avoid other persons, especially in indoor spaces and larger groups, for five days. However, the new ordinance no longer requires quarantine for contact persons. Instead, a reduction in contacts, "self-monitoring" (paying attention to symptoms and measuring body temperature, and wearing a medical mask when in contact with others until the fifth day after contact with the infected person) is recommended.

For immunised employees in vulnerable facilities, such as hospitals, care facilities, or supported employment, there is a daily testing requirement for five days if there was close contact with infected persons. It is also recommended for those affected to work from home if possible.

It is crucial to note that the information presented here is based on the typical framework seen in Germany and NRW during the later stages of the pandemic (2022-2023). Given the absence of explicit information for NRW from recent sources, it is recommended to consult official NRW government or public health websites or decrees for the precise current test, isolation, and quarantine rules effective in August 2025.

  1. In the revised Corona ordinance, a negative test is mandatory for individuals in NRW to be released early from isolation, highlighting the importance of science and medical-conditions in health-and-wellness protocols.
  2. For immunized workers in sensitive facilities, regular testing is still required in NRW if they have had close contact with infected individuals, emphasizing the continuing significance of science and health-and-wellness practices in managing medical-conditions within the community.
