Marburg County Secures Local Healthcare: Takes Over Insolvent DRK Hospital
Marburg-Biedenkopf District Council has taken a significant step to secure local healthcare. On Friday, September 26, the council unanimously decided to take over the insolvent DRK Hospital Biedenkopf from January 1, 2026. The hospital will be renamed 'Hinterland-Klinik' and operate as a 'rural clinic' under the county's management. County administrator Jens Wormelsdorf is optimistic about the future of the clinic.
The DRK had been managing the hospital until the end of 2025, but their withdrawal left the future of the clinic uncertain. The county's decision ensures that the medical care for approximately 66,000 residents in the region will continue. The financial situation of the hospital has been challenging due to insolvency, but the district is prepared to face this significant financial challenge. The aim is to prevent the closure of the hospital and ensure it operates more smoothly under public management. The county is committed to maintaining the employment of more than 200 staff at the new 'Hinterland-Klinik'.
The takeover of the DRK Hospital Biedenkopf by Marburg county marks a new chapter in the history of the clinic. The county's commitment to ensuring the continued operation of the hospital and maintaining employment is a testament to their dedication to the healthcare needs of the local community.
