The Luangwa Safari Association Medical Fund (LSAMF) is seeking an experienced doctor for a volunteer role based at the Kakumbi Rural Health Centre (KRHC) in Mfuwe, Eastern Province, Zambia. This position, which starts urgently from January 2026, supports both the local community and tourism sector in the South Luangwa Valley.

The doctor will be responsible for providing clinical care at KRHC, offering medical support for lodge staff and tourists, and participating in community health clinics. Key duties also include managing LSAMF stock for member consultations, weekly training at the district hospital, and coordination with local insurance and medevac services.

The role is a volunteer position with expenses covered. Doctors are expected to work independently in low-resource, rural settings. The clinic handles over 1,500 patients per month and is growing due to increasing local demand. The schedule remains flexible, with the expectation of approximately 20 clinical hours per week. The role duration is 3-6 months.

Investigations at the clinic are limited to malaria RDTs, HIV testing, glucometer, and pregnancy tests. Medical equipment and supplies are limited, and doctors must apply for a temporary medical licence through the Medical Council of Zambia, supported by LSAMF, and registration is granted under the HPCZ's "Limited Registration" pathway.

Doctors are on call 24/7 for lodge-related queries but not for KRHC outside normal working hours, except in serious emergencies. Lodges may offer discounted rates for activities, but doctors must remain within 1 hour of the gate in case of emergencies.

The clinic includes two 3-bed wards, a dedicated delivery suite and postnatal bed, and regular clinics for chronic disease, family planning, and under-5 care. Doctors may be invited to participate in community activities and can enjoy proximity to South Luangwa National Park.

Interested candidates are advised to apply directly to the LSAMF at [email protected]. For accurate and detailed information about the LSAMF volunteer doctor position starting January 2026, it is recommended to contact the Luangwa Safari Association Medical Fund directly or visit their official website or affiliated conservation and medical volunteer portals.
