Medical professionals from India touch down in Dhaka to offer assistance to passengers involved in an aircraft mishap.
In the wake of the tragic plane crash in Dhaka on July 21, 2025, a team of four medical professionals from India has arrived in the Bangladeshi capital to provide assistance. The team, which includes Dr. Ram Mohan and Dr. Piyush Thayal from two leading burn treatment centres in New Delhi, landed in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The medical team, hailing from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital, has been tasked with assisting in the comprehensive assessment and treatment of victims from the plane crash. They have carried necessary medicines with them for their mission.
Following an announcement by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has offered condolences and support to Bangladesh, stating that India stands in solidarity with its neighbour and is ready to extend all possible support and assistance. The Bangladesh government will receive assistance from the Indian medical team with required health measures.
The death toll from the plane crash has risen to 19, with 164 injured. The medical team's primary objective is to assess the condition of the patients and recommend further treatment and specialized care in India if necessary. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this assessment will be carried out, and the findings will be reported to the MEA and the Directorate General of Health Services upon the team's return.
Additional medical teams may follow the initial team depending on their preliminary assessment and treatment. The team also includes nursing assistants Puneet Sharma and Anita Verma. The Indian medical team is expected to be in Bangladesh for approximately one week to help with the comprehensive assessment and treatment of victims from the plane crash.
