Middle Eastern crisis draws alarm from the European Parliament.

After months of anticipation, the 190th Oktoberfest has officially begun in Munich on October 1, 2025. The festivities started with the traditional tapping of the first keg by Munich's Mayor Dieter Reiter, who expressed relief that the ceremony went smoothly despite the challenging heat.

Mayor Reiter was joined by Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder, who also received the first liter of beer in the Schottenhamel tent. Söder donned Lederhosen for the second time to tap the keg, viewing Oktoberfest as a moment of peacefulness that helps "fight the crises of the world."

Visitors from Munich, the surrounding area, Germany, and the whole world are expected to flock to the Wiesn for the next 16 days until October 5. This annual tradition attracts millions, with records showing over seven million people attending in the past. This year, temperatures are expected to be around 30°C, with a record-suspicious 31 degrees registered in the afternoon.

The first visitors arrived at the Wiesn fences in the early morning hours, ready to celebrate. However, some tents had to be closed due to overcrowding in the early afternoon. Despite this, beer, a traditional way to cool down during Oktoberfest, was flowing freely.

Unfortunately, not all stories were positive. An 11-year-old patient was treated for circulation problems, and an 18-year-old man from Arizona was taken to the medical station due to too much alcohol. Tragically, a 70-year-old woman died before the opening in the area of the showman's caravans.

Schlager star Jürgen Drews skipped the traditional beer at the opening, identifying as an "anti-alcoholic." Meanwhile, Beni Hafner, alias Oimara, is focusing on music at this Wiesn, with his song "Wackelkontakt" having good chances of becoming the Wiesn hit of 2025.

The Aicher Ambulanz treated over 280 cases, mainly due to the heat, by the afternoon. Visitors are advised to stay hydrated and take regular breaks to avoid heat exhaustion.

As the sun sets on the first day of Oktoberfest, revellers can look forward to 15 more days of music, food, and beer in the heart of Munich.
