Minsk voices concerns over mold and worms found in food, according to the Sanstation report
In August, city hygiene and epidemiology centres conducted unplanned checks on several retail outlets in Minsk, following social media videos about poor-quality products. The inspections, reported by the agency "Minsk-Novosti", uncovered multiple violations of sanitary regulations.
One of the stores that came under scrutiny was the "Svetofor" store in Masyukovshchyna. A video from the store, showing moldy sausage, gained over 52,000 views on TikTok. However, during the inspection at "Svetofor", only one type of dry-cured sausage was found for sale, with no signs of spoilage, expired dates, or storage violations. The specific issues discovered at "Svetofor" were not detailed in the provided report.
Another store that faced sanitary issues was the "Mayak" store, with incidents reported at two different locations - on Sharangovich Street, 21, and an unspecified location. A video showed moldy mackerel in brine, allegedly purchased from the "Mayak" store. Eight cans of the mackerel with a manufacturing date of May 13, 2025, were delivered to the inspected point at the "Mayak" store. The Frunzensky District Hygiene and Epidemiology Center reported that no signs of spoilage or expired dates were found during the inspection at the "Mayak" store.
The "Neighbors" store also faced sanitary issues. An another customer complained about a rotten chicken breast bought at the "Neighbors" store on Pobediteley Avenue, 49. At the time of the inspection, the storage conditions and expiration dates of the chicken at the "Neighbors" store were in order. Samples of food products were taken for laboratory testing from the "Neighbors" store, and the results will be announced later.
A regular fruit stand near house No. 28 on Garmonikas Street had products of "unspecified quality" and other violations of sanitary requirements. The business owner of the fruit stand received a notice to withdraw the specified products from circulation and recommendations for improvement.
The unannounced inspections by the hygiene commissions in the Frunzensky district in September revealed multiple violations of sanitary regulations. Minsk-Novosti reported that these inspections were a direct response to the concerns raised by the public through social media.
As the city continues to grow and change, it is crucial for retail outlets to maintain the highest standards of sanitation and food safety to protect the health and well-being of its citizens.
