Multiple Women File Sexual Assault Lawsuit Against Previous Cedars-Sinai Medical Professional
A lawsuit has been filed against Dr. Barry J. Brock, an obstetrician-gynecologist, by dozens of women who accuse him of sexually abusing patients at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The total number of accusers is described as being in the hundreds, according to legal discussions and advocacy groups involved in the case.
The allegations against Dr. Brock include engaging in sexually inappropriate behavior and recommending unnecessary medical treatments. One woman claims that during a gynecological examination in 2015, Dr. Brock said, "Your 'down there' is much dirtier than my hands." Another patient claims that she told Dr. Brock she was a lesbian, to which he responded, "Well, I can change that."
In a more disturbing incident, a patient alleges that Dr. Brock viewed her modeling pictures on his exam room computer during a visit and commented on her vulva. Another woman claims that Cedars-Sinai medical staff dismissed her complaints against Dr. Brock, with one being told, "That's just how he is" and "Don't put much on it."
The lawsuit details a pattern of non-consensual, inappropriate conduct during medical exams and alleges institutional cover-ups by Cedars-Sinai and affiliated clinics. The lawsuit involves 107 additional women who have accused Dr. Brock of sexual misconduct, spanning several decades.
Dr. Brock, 74, has denied all allegations of wrongdoing. However, attorneys for the women now claim that Cedars-Sinai's approach to the allegations has been less-than-honest, suggesting that Dr. Brock "has only recently 'retired' to conceal his status as a serial predator."
Cedars-Sinai medical staff allegedly received numerous complaints regarding Dr. Brock's sexually exploitative and abusive behavior, dating back several decades. The spokesperson for Cedars-Sinai stated that Dr. Brock no longer has privileges to practice medicine at the institution and that the matter has been reported to the California Medical Board.
Despite losing his privileges, Dr. Brock was a member of the Cedars-Sinai network until 2018, but retained clinical privileges there through at least mid-2024. The lawsuit claims that Dr. Brock has been allowed to continue injuring, exploiting, and abusing patients under the guise of medical care at Cedars-Sinai from 1979 through August of 2024.
As the case continues to unfold, the number of women pursuing claims against Dr. Brock is now over 270. The lawsuit filed on behalf of nine women named in the complaint highlights individual accusations, while broader reports suggest many more survivors have come forward. The allegations against Dr. Brock are a stark reminder of the importance of addressing and preventing sexual misconduct in healthcare settings.
