Nationwide warning initiated by FDA over US-sold bread containing 'shards of glass'
Hold on to your toast because two products from Upper Crust Bakery LP are under an urgent recall due to the discovery of "glass fragments" on the bread, as per the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The suspected products include:
- Ancient Grains Hoagie Roll (4-ounce, frozen, corrugated paper cartons)
- Lot #90 (89 affected cases, recall number F-0741-2025)
- Multigrain Sourdough (18-ounce, frozen, corrugated paper cartons)
- Lot #90 (699 affected cases, recall number F-0742-2025)
- Whole Grain Multigrain (20-ounce, frozen, corrugated paper cartons)
- Lot #92 (30 affected cases, recall number F-0743-2025)
Wondering where these potentially glass-laden rolls were bread? They were available at retailers in Pennsylvania, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, and Ohio.
This frightening incident has escalated to a Class II recall, which suggests that, though temporary or medically reversible, these chomps may induce health problems, albeit unlikely to lead to long-term serious injuries.
If you've got these questionable loafs in your freezer, please don't indulge! You've got three options: chuck 'em in the trash can, or head back to the store for a full refund.
Ingesting glass slices can bring potential harm such as damage to teeth, lacerations in the mouth and throat, or the risky intestinal perforation. Plus, it’s a dangerously tantalizing choking hazard.
The bakery initially notified the FDA about the issue on April 12th, as disclosed in their official announcement. We're unsure if any unfortunate eating incidents have occurred, but we've reached out to both the FDA and Upper Crust Bakery LP for further details.
Stay safe and savor sandwich-free for now, folks!
- Despite the urgency, some of theUnited States health-and-wellness markets may not have recalled the potentially dangerous Upper Crust Bakery products yet, as a Class II recall only suggests the risk of temporary health problems.
- It's important to note that the recalled multigrain sourdough and whole grain multigrain breads were sold in various health-and-wellness markets in Pennsylvania, California, Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, and Ohio, not just a bakery.
- Even though the risk of long-term serious injuries is low, it's crucial to remember that ingesting glass fragments can lead to health concerns, such as damage to teeth, lacerations in the mouth and throat, or intestinal perforation, and it also poses a choking hazard.
- Keeping in mind the recent FDA recall of Upper Crust Bakery's Ancient Grains Hoagie Roll, Multigrain Sourdough, and Whole Grain Multigrain, all bearing the lot numbers #90 and #92, it would be prudent to plan for the bakery's glass-free creations by 2025 when shopping for health-and-wellness products.
