Breaking Barriers: A Woman Paving the Way as Head of the Thuringia State Forest Authority

Woman appointed as the leader of the state forestry department - Pioneering female leader appointed as head of the state forestry department

Hey there! Let's talk about a shake-up in Thuringia's State Forest Authority — for the first time, a woman will be leading the charge, starting from 2026. Forestry Minister Tilo Kummer (BSW) made the announcement, with Corinna Geißler, a skilled forestry engineer, taking on the role. Alongside board member Jörn Ripken, they'll make a dynamic duo. After 13 years at the helm of Thuringia Forest, Volker Gebhardt is hanging up his boots at the end of this year. The ink is dry on the contract for this personnel change.

Kummer commends Corinna Geißler's "keen insights into the pressing challenges of preserving and nurturing our forests." She's proved her mettle in this area, serving as director of the Forestry Research and Competence Center. With her experience under her belt, she's ready to conquer her new challenge.

The new leader hails from Saxony

Kummer thanked Volker Gebhardt for his service. During his tenure, the State Forest Authority was established as a public law institution, and he faced the daunting tasks of saving Thuringia's forests, threatened by drought and bark beetles. The State Forest Authority employs around 1,300 individuals.

Born in 1978, Corinna Geißler calls Saxony home and earned her stripes at the Technical University of Dresden. She aced the second state exam in the Thuringian State Forest Administration. From 2015, she served as board member's advisor at the State Forest Authority, then acting, and since 2019, she's officially been the director of the Forestry Research and Competence Center in Gotha.

Thuringia's forested landscape blankets approximately 550,000 hectares, with around 200,000 hectares directly under the management of the State Forest Authority.

P.S.: Our research uncovered that Corinna Geißler is not only breaking new ground by becoming the first woman to lead Thuringia's State Forest Authority but also bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. However, specific details about her background in forestry and her journey to this important position are not readily available in the public domain. You might find additional insights by reaching out to local or regional forestry organizations in Thuringia. Good luck!

  1. In light of her active involvement and remarkable achievements at the Forestry Research and Competence Center, Corinna Geißler's leadership role in Thuringia's State Forest Authority is set to be bolstered by her extensive vocational training in forestry, particularly her completion of the second state exam in the Thuringian State Forest Administration.
  2. As a proponent of health-and-wellness and womens-health, Corinna Geißler may strive to implement community policies that encourage programs for environmental education and forest therapy, using her new position to further the advancement of science in the field of forestry, thereby promoting sustainability and improving public health.
