Political leader MK Stalin to initiate large-scale health awareness campaign, well ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections
The Tamil Nadu government, under the leadership of Chief Minister MK Stalin, is set to launch a comprehensive health outreach campaign titled "From Prevention to Wellness" on Saturday. The initiative aims to promote overall wellness by focusing on early diagnosis and prevention, particularly for non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension[1].
The campaign plans to screen and support 10 lakh people across the state, running diagnostic medical camps in 1,164 locations, including urban, semi-urban, rural, and tribal areas[1]. The camps will be equipped with modern diagnostic tools, and each participant will receive a tech-enabled health check-up. For digital tracking and follow-up care, participants can access their results via a unique barcode[1].
The campaign's focus on preventive healthcare for adults over 40 with non-communicable diseases like diabetes and hypertension is part of a broader strategy coordinated by more than 20 government departments and District Collectors[1]. The camps will run until February 2026, with 15 camps planned in Chennai[1].
The "From Prevention to Wellness" campaign is an extension of the flagship programme "Ungaludan Stalin (Stalin With You)". Under this programme, 45 government services are being delivered directly at people's doorsteps[1].
The health campaign is seen as a means to deepen citizen engagement and consolidate the DMK government's welfare-centric image ahead of the elections, scheduled in eight months. However, the senior official involved in the initiative stated that the campaign is about reaching every household with meaningful government presence, ensuring no one slips through the cracks, especially those who ignore early signs of serious conditions[1].
