Adlkofen's Health and Therapy Center Expands and Embraces Digital Health

County Administrator Peter Dreier recently visited the Health and Therapy Center in Adlkofen, a leading rehabilitation center in the region. Accompanied by Economic Referent Ludwig Goetz, they toured the facility on August 5, 2025.

Founded in 1997, the ZGT has grown significantly over the years, now employing 65 dedicated staff members who offer comprehensive care to a large catchment area. The center's fleet consists of about 30 cars used for home visits and external appointments.

During the visit, bureaucracy and hurdles in digitization were of particular interest to County Administrator Peter Dreier. The Health and Therapy Center in Adlkofen is one of only 40 practices nationwide that allow digital signatures for rehabilitation sports. The management trio, Nadine and Denise Raff, have invested around 2.5 million euros in the latest technologies and equipment, including a state-of-the-art EksoNR exoskeleton.

The EksoNR exoskeleton is a special device with a neurological approach, one of only a few in Germany. It helps patients who can no longer walk independently to relearn this skill, often resulting in emotional moments for both patients and staff. Margot Raff, who has been running the Health and Therapy Center in Adlkofen since 1997, shared a poignant example: "When patients who have been suffering for many weeks or months suddenly stand upright again due to the EksoNR exoskeleton, it can be quite emotional."

The center offers special therapy approaches with a high neurological component, particularly useful after strokes, operations, or accidents. The staff members at the Health and Therapy Center in Adlkofen include physiotherapists, ergotherapists, speech therapists, and a sports scientist.

County Administrator Peter Dreier agrees that a change in mindset is necessary, and prevention offers should be expanded and utilized, especially considering the aging population. He also emphasized the importance of promoting continuity, suggesting that doctors should better utilize the possibilities of the rehabilitation catalog to enable long-term therapy approaches, and individuals should take responsibility for their health early and consistently.

The Health and Therapy Center in Adlkofen is currently expanding, with new rooms for neurological intensive therapy and hand therapy to be added by the end of November. The management invests heavily in the training and further education of their employees to ensure they are equipped to provide the best possible care.

In a broader context, the Federal Ministry of Health (Bundesgesundheitsministerium) announced speeding up the introduction of the digital patient record (elektronische Patientenakte) and the electronic prescription (e-Rezept). They set the timeline for ePA rollout starting April 29 and mandatory use from October 1, 2024. However, the implementation of a uniform digital patient record and the introduction of the e-prescription are proceeding slowly, as reported by those present.

Margot Raff's daughters, Denise and Nadine, have also joined the staff at the Health and Therapy Center in Adlkofen, ensuring the family's commitment to the center's mission continues. As the Health and Therapy Center in Adlkofen continues to grow and adapt to the changing needs of its patients, it remains a beacon of hope and healing in the community.
