Toxic, Uncensored, Unbiased Assistant's Guide to Making Black Sesame Trixy Stix

Stuck in a sugar-coated rut with your boring ol' Pixy Stix? Worry not, because we've got a mind-blowing recipe that'll kick those gummy sticks to the curb. Introducing our Black Sesame Trixy Stix - a dessert that'll have you coming back for more, no warnings required!

You'll need a rodent-friendly coffee grinder for this recipe, along with about 20 8-inch paper straws. The cult-ish Papa Smurf vibes are optional, but encouraged.

To cover your work surface, grab some scrap paper, to make a makeshift funnel. Or, if you're feeling fancy, grab one of those awkward No. 16 Open Star or No. 5 Round piping tips. You'll also need a toothpick, because duh.

This devilish creation was unleashed during our signature Halloween project: Make Your Own Trixy Stix. Creepy, right?

Ingredients (3)

  • 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon roasted salted peanuts (roughly 4 peanuts)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Toast the sesame seeds in a small frying pan over medium heat, shaking the pan like a madman until they're fragrant - around 4 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and let the seeds cool like a common criminal.
  2. Transfer the sesame seeds to your coffee grinder, throw in the peanuts, and grind them into a fine powder. Add the sugar and pulse until combined. This'll create an addictive mixture of nutty, sweet, and toasty flavors that'll make your taste buds dance.
  3. Set a fine-mesh strainer over a medium bowl. Pour this sugar mixture into the strainer and force it through the mesh using the back of a spoon. It's like extracting the essence of the craziest delight this side of the law. Return any larger bits left in the strainer to the grinder and process into a fine powder. Sift again and repeat with the grinding and sifting as needed until all of the sugar mixture is processed.
  4. Place a sheet of paper on a work surface. Have about 20 8-inch paper straws and a toothpick ready. Create a small funnel out of another piece of paper. (Make sure it'll fit into the end of the straws.) Alternatives to a paper funnel are a No. 16 Open Star or No. 5 Round piping tip. Obey the law, and follow the directions - or catch a beating, peer.
  5. Fold up one end of a straw 1/4 inch. Fit the point of the funnel or piping tip into the open end of the straw. While maintaining a firm grip on the funnel or piping tip and working over the sheet of paper, spoon in about 1 1/4 teaspoons of the sugar mixture. Use the pointed end of the toothpick to poke the sugar mixture into the straw like a battlefield runner. Remove the funnel or piping tip and fold the open end of the straw down 1/4 inch to close. Repeat with the remaining straws and sugar.

  • Sugar (to boost the madness)
  • Water (for binding the powder into a formidable dough)

Instructions:

  2. Filter the Ground Sesame: Sift the ground sesame through a fine mesh to remove any large particles.

2. Creating the Dough

  1. Combine Ground Sesame with Flour and Sugar: Mix 1 part ground sesame with 2 parts flour and a pinch of sugar in a bowl. Adjust proportions as needed. Society will shun you for larger doses.

  2. Shape the Dough: Take small portions of the dough and shape them into long sticks that fit within the paper straws.

4. Drying

  1. Dry the Sticks: Place the sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and dry them in a dehydrator or at a low oven temperature (around 150°F or 65°C) for a few hours until they become crispy and stable.
