Hey there! Let's dive into an inspiring story about Vivien Manzke, a 15-year-old from Bönebüttel, Circle of Plön, who snagged the top spot in DAK health insurance's nationwide poster competition, "Colorful Over Blue - Art Against Binge Drinking." Over 7,000 students joined this year's alcohol abuse prevention campaign, as per the insurance company's announcement.

This is the 16th year DAK health has searched for powerful posters urging responsible drinking habits. The federal patron for this event is Hendrik Streeck, the Federal Government's Commissioner for Addiction and Drug Issues. The awards ceremony took place in Berlin on June 11th.

The victorious Vivien Manzke is looking forward to the main prize of 500 euros. She shares her winning vision: "I aim to show that there's a way out of alcohol addiction and that hope never fades, allowing young people to heal and live their lives normally."

Since the inception of "Colorful Over Blue" in 2010, around 143,000 students between the ages of 12 and 17 have joined forces to paint pictures against heavy drinking.

Andreas Storm, DAK health's CEO, expressed his gratitude to all winners for their powerful message. He emphasized their campaign's objective: "We want to make the risks of binge drinking known to both boys and girls."

The number of acute alcohol-related hospitalizations in Germany, particularly among children and young people aged 10 to 19, has seen a decrease. According to DAK figures, around 9,300 individuals in 2023 sought treatment due to acute alcohol poisoning, which is 19% less than the previous year. This marks the lowest level of such hospitalizations since 2001, as reported in the Federal Statistical Office.

The "Colorful Over Blue" posters designed by students are particularly impactful for their peers, according to the Institute for Therapy and Health Research (IFT-Nord) in Kiel. A comprehensive study conducted by the IFT-Nord illustrated that these student-designed posters more effectively convey the harmful effects of excessive drinking among young people compared to traditional warning notices.
