In the vibrant city of Wuppertal, a unique movement has been making strides for a decade, promoting safe paths for children and young people. The Kidical Mass, a demonstration of the desire for a livable future, has been a regular event since 2020.

As part of a larger, nationwide movement involving over 180 cities, the Kidical Mass in Wuppertal stands as a testament to the collective desire for change. Organized by Bicycle City Wuppertal, ADFC Wuppertal/Solingen, and the "Mobile Wuppertal" initiative, this event invites all generations to join.

The pace of the Kidical Mass is carefully set to ensure the youngest participants can keep up, as they pedal their bikes, balance bikes, scooters, or ride in trailers. The route, approximately six kilometers long, sees the colourful images of children on their vehicles traverse various neighbourhoods in Barmen, Elberfeld, and Vohwinkel, leaving a trail of joy and anticipation in their wake.

The Kidical Mass aims to create a city where children and young people can move independently and safely. This includes advocating for traffic laws that prioritize children's needs, a continuous and safe cycling infrastructure for all age groups, and the consistent implementation of Vision Zero, which aims to prevent fatal traffic accidents.

Christoph Grothe, a member of the "Bicycle City Wuppertal" association, is among the dedicated individuals driving this movement. The Kidical Mass events have attracted hundreds of people since the inception of the first Kidical Mass website in 2020, reflecting the growing support for this cause.

As the Kidical Mass embarks on its tenth journey together, it continues to show the joy that comes when streets are opened up for everyone. The anniversary edition of the Kidical Mass is focused on a livable future, reinforcing the commitment to making Wuppertal a city where children and young people can move freely and safely.
