'Cowboy Cooking' Host's Budget-Friendly Lunch Meat Beat by Recall Struggle
Television brand's baked beans, mimicking a famed TV series character, pulled from shelves due to missing allergen warning
Kent Rollins, the man behind the weekly "Cowboy Cooking" show on his YouTube channel, has a surprising favorite on a budget -- that is, if a food recall doesn't interfere. Learn what's got him talking and (potentially) millions of us running to the stores.
The "Yellowstone Brown Sugar Molasses Baked Beans" from a popular TV series-inspired food line has found itself in hot water recently. These 15-ounce cans, distributed across 23 states, are being recalled due to an undeclared allergen: soy.
This revelation comes from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which announced the recall on Monday. The company, Vietti Food Group of Nashville, Tennessee, has warned that consumers with soy allergies or severe sensitivities could face severe or even life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this recalled product.
Sold in grocery stores like Walmart, Hy-Vee, and Meijer, the rescinded beans made their way to Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Virginia.
Fortunately, no illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported to date, according to both the company and FDA. But with the affected best-by date of February 17, 2028, printed on the cans' bottoms, consumers are advised to return any affected products to the store for a full refund.
As for Kent Rollins and his lunch meat preference, well, we'll have to wait and see if the recall lets this story take center stage on "Cowboy Cooking" again!
