Toddler Suffers Grievous Harm at Hands of Elder Pupil at School: Mother Seeks Legal Action
In the small town of Chaiyaphum, a mother is fighting for justice after her 2-year-old daughter was allegedly assaulted by a classmate at a private school in tambon Ban Lad Yai, Muang district.
The incident, which occurred on July 29 at around 7.30am, left the young girl with extensive injuries across her body, including facial swelling, bruising, and multiple large wounds on her torso, arms, and shoulders. As a result, the child is currently receiving both medical treatment and psychiatric care due to the physical and psychological trauma from the attack.
The headteacher of the school, who is a former lawyer, has argued that the mother's Facebook posts seeking justice - though not naming the school - had damaged the institution's reputation because the school uniform was visible in photos. Despite this, the headteacher has not contacted the mother or visited her daughter.
The school initially offered 5,000 baht as compensation, but the mother has demanded 1 million baht for her daughter's physical and mental rehabilitation. In a similar vein, the parents of the child who allegedly carried out the attack offered 3,000 baht, which the mother rejected as inadequate.
The mother has vowed to pursue the case through the courts to protect her daughter's rights and hopes the case will serve as a warning to society and educational institutions about the seriousness of such incidents. She has also called for both the school and the other parents to take proper responsibility.
Since the incident, the other child's parents have never visited or called to ask about her daughter's condition. Mediation talks were held at the local police station on Aug 1, but the current status of the legal action is unknown as no search results are available regarding the case's progress.
