Breaking News: Recall of KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchen Due to Strangulation Hazard

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada have announced a recall of the KidKraft Farm to Table Model Play Kitchen due to a strangulation and asphyxia hazard. The recall was issued on July 31, 2022, and is supported by both the CPSC and Health Canada.

The play kitchen, manufactured by KidKraft, Inc. from 2018 to 2023 and sold until May 2024, has a model number of 53411 and is produced by Backyard Kids, LLC. The recalled product is marketed for children aged 3 and up and was sold online through Amazon, Walmart.com, and KidKraft from 2018 through July 2025.

The recall was triggered by a tragic incident in Oregon in February 2023 where a 23-month-old child died from strangulation and asphyxia after clothing got caught on a hook while climbing and crawling through the back opening of the kitchen unit. The unit involved was not securely fastened to the wall, allowing a gap for the child to get trapped.

Backyard Kids, LLC is conducting the recall and providing free replacement hooks to address the hazard. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the product, remove the original hooks, and contact Backyard Kids for the replacement hooks. Contact information includes a customer support phone line (1-800-882-0234) and an email ([email protected]).

Approximately 192,000 units are recalled in the U.S., with approximately 400 being sold by Backyard Kids directly. No other injuries or incidents have been reported beyond the one fatality in the U.S.

The UPC codes for the KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchen are 706943534113, 706943010228, and 706943207277.

The CPSC is a source for the latest updates on recalls and product safety. Other recent recalls include New Mexico Piñon Coffee pulling 154 single-serve cups due to possible cross-contamination with food coloring during the brewing process, and more than 3.6 million burst-proof garden hoses being recalled due to 222 reports of ruptures, with 29 resulting injuries.

Consumers are urged to check their play kitchens and contact Backyard Kids for the replacement hooks to ensure the safety of their children.

  1. In light of the recent recall of the KidKraft Farm to Table Play Kitchen due to a safety hazard, it's crucial for consumers to pay attention to health-and-wellness updates, especially those related to children's toys.
  2. Besides the KidKraft recall, other health-related recalls have been announced, such as the New Mexico Piñon Coffee pullback due to possible contamination and the burst-proof garden hoses recall due to ruptures, underscoring the importance of staying informed about product safety.
