While they couldn't pinpoint the root cause of this increased vitamin D production, they suspect that estrogen-based contraception may boost vitamin D levels and that these levels are likely to drop once women stop using contraception.

The study's findings suggest that women who plan to become pregnant should consider checking their vitamin D levels to ensure they are within a healthy range before conceiving and during pregnancy.
